Ottawa Trans Day of Remembrance 2007

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Ottawa Trans Community Remembers Victims of Anti-Trans Hatred and Prejudice

Ottawa, November 13, 2007 -- Trans Day of Remembrance (TDOR) has been set aside, for almost a decade, as an annual observance to memorialize those who have died due to anti-trans hatred or prejudice. The event has its roots in the murder of Boston transwoman Rita Hester on November 28, 1998, which led to the 'Remembering Our Dead' Web project and a candlelight vigil in San Francisco in 1999. Since then, the event has grown to encompass memorials in dozens of cities around the world.
